OUR FIRST PHOTOSHOOT FOR SÖPÖSISU
We had a lot of fun on our very first shoot for Söpösisu! It was a real family affair with bubs and partners roped into model, carry props, take photos, or sent on quick coffee and snack runs. It was a hectic day, but above all, it was very, very exciting! This day has been a long time coming for us, and to actually hold our products in our hands and to see them so beautifully made was pretty darn spectacular.
Söpösisu has been in the works for about 6 years, probably longer if you count teenage daydreams, but we have finally put our dream of running a creative business that encompasses all our talents and passions into one joyful bundle.
We have spent the past twelve months coming up with countless ideas and designs, and decided to launch three designs to start with as they have been long favourites of ours. We especially love the Kesä headscarf and the Planeetta silk scarf and the tote bags, and Oh! Everything actually! That’s why we designed them, because we love bright bold colours and patterns as much as we do muted, natural materials. Heidi is wearing one of our women’s linen tops in the shoot, but we are not releasing them at this stage, as finding suppliers we want to work with, and who align with our values is not always easy. Neither is getting a good shot of us modelling our wares, as it turns out.
We almost died of laugher a few times as we tried to act like “models” to get just the right shot. Perhaps one day we will be able to hire some professional models, but for now, you’ll have to put up with our dorky selves. Beggars can’t be choosers, after all. Still, we managed to get some good photos out of the day, despite all the silliness, sudden bursts of laugher and the occasion interruption. Thankfully, we were blessed with a perfect Autumn day, an unusually quiet morning in the tourist town of Belgrave and the rugged beauty of the Australian forest landscape, which provided a wonderful backdrops for our products. They all looked so bright and fun against against the graffiti in town as well as the pale straw of the old potato fields in Sherbrook Forest.
By the end of the day we were totally beat, but extremely happy to have come so far and to have spent the day with the people we love best, doing something we love to do, something we hope to do for a long time to come. The day was surreal in many ways, as we’d worked up to this moment for such a long time. There were moments when we thought we might not get to this point. With Heidi and I both being mama’s, normal run of the mill life stuff, house hunting, study and the unexpected has sometimes pushed this project off track, but we’ve managed to keep going, and we’re both so glad we didn’t give up.
It’s been a lot of hard work, but seeing it all come together has been so satisfying. And this is only the start. We have so many ideas we want to get started and so many more products we want to offer. Nevertheless, we are thrilled to have reached this milestone, as it’s one small step towards a much bigger dream.
LOTS OF LOVE
From Susu and Heidi
